The Season of Easter

Christ First now enters a time in the Christian calendar called the Season of Easter, when we have just experienced the Joy of the extravagant grace of God and the living presence of Christ. Hopefully we have our spiritual batteries more fully charged. There are many opportunities to share the love Christ has shown us. Sometimes those opportunities can be a little scary or can take us out of our comfort zone.

Sometimes it is the time commitment that is scary, so Charlie – our Mission and Outreach Coordinator - has planned a variety of mission opportunities for us. You can commit to just a few hours once and a while. If you would like a scheduled event that is one time a month or four times a year there are opportunities. If you’re ready to make a weekly commitment, welcome aboard!

Sometimes we fear that we might be asked to do something beyond our abilities. If you can sew or knit or crochet or cook, or write a card or wield a hand tool or handle a power tool, or just do physical labor there is a place for you. If physical activity is a problem, you can offer an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on, some sage advice or a lot of uplifting prayer...In other words, there is a place for you!

The Second of our monthly “Servant Saturday” is May 4th. Starting as early as 8 am. This is a great fit for folks who are not able to make a long term commitment to an ongoing mission. If you’re available that morning, please show up.!

Sometimes we need a little help to understand where God as gifted us, and how to use these gifts to his glory. The greater United Methodist Church has short online survey that may help give you some direction.

Thought For The Week

In his Revelation, John did not write about heaven as much as about the coming-of-heaven-on-earth. He wrote that God 'pitches God's tent' (literally) among us, bringing us a 'new Jerusalem', a holy city that is created not for angels, but for human beings. How might you imagine that holy city? How would it be different than our own? How might we begin to live in it right now?
